TORONTO, ON, February 6, 2019 – At an exclusive event last night, Kia previewed the exciting new vehicles consumers will see at the upcoming Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto next week, including the Canadian debut of the all-new 2020 Kia Telluride – a luxurious 8-seater SUV brimming with advanced technology.

Making their provincial debuts were the sporty, all-new 2020 Kia Forte5 hatchback and the super fun, all-new 2020 Kia Soul. Alongside the brand-new vehicles were two vehicles that the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) have voted as Best Small Car and Best Large Car for 2019 – the Kia Forte sedan and Kia Stinger. Both the Forte and Stinger are two of three finalists for the AJAC Overall Car of the Year that will be announced on February 14, 2019.

Kia also proudly showcased it’s all-new pair of electric vehicles – the 2019 Kia Niro EV and the 2020 Kia Soul EV – which will have the range, design and functionality to truly be “real-world” cars. With the introduction of these vehicles, Kia has become one of the only brands to offer two distinct electric vehicles to Canadians looking for an electric alternative to their everyday driving needs.

“With new and exciting vehicles boasting outstanding design and performance and packed with advanced technology, there has never been a better time for Canadians to take a closer look at Kia,” said Michael Kopke, Director of Marketing, Kia Canada Inc. “Whether they’re looking for a big luxurious family SUV, a fun, sporty and urban compact or an all-electric option with real-world range, Kia has something new coming this year for everyone!”

Kia Forte and Kia Stinger are Canada’s Best Small Car and Best Large Car for 2019

Montreal, QC – January 17, 2019 – At a presentation today in Montreal, the Kia Forte has been named Best Small Car in Canada for 2019 and the Kia Stinger has been named Best Large Car in Canada for 2019, winning their respective categories as part of the judging for AJAC’s Canadian Car of the Year and Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year and qualifying them both for the overall awards to be named in February.

Bringing home both mainstream car awards is a huge accomplishment for the brand and a testament to the award-winning design and quality investments that Kia has, and continues to put into its entire lineup of vehicles. For Canadians that have not yet considered a Kia, the awards are yet another reason to look at the brand with the ‘Power to Surprise.’ Both vehicles will be on display at this year’s Canadian auto shows and are currently available in dealerships across the country.

“We’re grateful to all of AJAC’s voting journalists for recognizing the Forte and Stinger as the best cars in their categories” said Michael Kopke, Director of Marketing, Kia Canada. “Kia is focused on bringing safe, high-quality vehicles that look great and fit the lives of Canadians so it is a wonderful honour to see that so that many of Canada’s top automotive experts believe that our cars are hitting the target above some great competition in the market.”

Winning their respective categories also means that both the Kia Forte and Kia Stinger are two of five contenders for the AJAC Canadian Car of the Year award that will be presented at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto on February 14.

“It’s a great achievement for a vehicle to win one of AJAC’s coveted Canadian Car of the Year awards, but it’s exceptional for the same automaker to make two award-winning vehicles in the same year,” said Mark Richardson, President, Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. “Congratulations to Kia for the well-deserved success of the Stinger and Forte.”

The new partnership officially launches today with media events in Quebec City and Calgary where the logo for the 2019 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia was unveiled and the host city for the 2020 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia was announced as Kelowna, British Columbia.

“On behalf of the Canadian Hockey League it is my pleasure to welcome Kia Canada to the CHL family,” said CHL President David Branch. “We are excited to work together to align our goals and build a strong partnership that includes creating a unique and memorable experience at our distinguished national championship. We look forward to the Memorial Cup Presented by Kia in Halifax this May, and our 2020 event in Western Canada.”

The Memorial Cup has a rich tradition that has shaped the way junior hockey is played in North America.  The trophy was originally known as the OHA Memorial Cup and was donated by the Ontario Hockey Association in March, 1919, in remembrance of the many soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice for Canada in the First Wold War.  In 2010 the Memorial Cup was rededicated to the memory of all fallen Canadian Military Personnel.  Last season marked the centennial celebration of the Memorial Cup where it was presented for the 100th time to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Regina.  The 2019 Memorial Cup Presented by Kia will feature the host Halifax Mooseheads along with the champions from the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL competing May 16-26.

“At Kia, we believe in the power that sports have to bring people and communities together so, as we enter our 20th year in Canada, we are proud to be a new partner of the Canadian Hockey League – the highest junior echelon of Canada’s favourite sport,” said Michael Kopke, Director of Marketing, Kia Canada Inc. “With our industry-leading quality and advanced safety and technology features, Kia’s lineup is a great fit for the CHL and Canadian hockey families wanting to stay safe and warm on their way to the rink; and everyone at Kia will be working hard to drive our national past-time and working within communities across the country to provide more opportunities for Canadians to watch, play and love the sport of hockey.”

Kia Canada will also have the opportunity to engage with CHL fans and communities across the country as an associate partner of the CIBC Canada Russia Series and the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.  Throughout the regular season, they will help spotlight some of the league’s best teams with feature content and title sponsorship of the CHL’s popular weekly top-10 rankings, and then join each regional league as a playoff partner during the stretch drive towards the Memorial Cup Presented by Kia.  With commitment to community top of mind, Kia Canada will also present Humanitarian of the Year awards in all three leagues and to a national recipient at the annual CHL Awards Ceremony.
